Dear Colleague,
Welcome to the 3rd Ubiquitin Research and Drug Discovery Conference being held
on February 25-26, 2013. This year’s keynote presentation will be delivered by
the 2004 Nobel Laureate Aaron Ciechanover. In addition to Dr. Ciechanover
leaders from across the country including Ray Deshaies and Rachel Klevit will
speak. There will also be a strong academic presence with presentations from
Harvard, UCLA, Stanford, Maryland, Emory, Cal, UCSD, Mt. Sinai and the
University of Dundee. Finally, leaders in the field from companies such as
Celgene, Genentech, Elan, Mission Therapeutics and Onyx will present.
In July 2012, the FDA approved the second-generation proteasome inhibitor
Kyprolis™ (carfilzomib). This exciting and encouraging news should stimulate
your interest in attending and hearing development of novel drug targets among
the UPS pathway. Presentations will combine new mechanistic insights on the
ubiquitin pathways from academic speakers and novel targets being developed in
the industry. This meeting will provide great opportunities to develop new ideas
and network with experts in the ubiquitin-related drug discovery field. The new
structural and regulatory insight on the largest enzyme family, E3 ligase, among
the UPS pathways will shed light on the general and specific ways of targeting
distinct ligases. How about the counter-acting enzyme that removes ubiquitin,
DUB? Targeting the specific DUBs or the general DUBs associated with proteasome
will be the second largest pool of new UPS-related drug targets. What will be
the next generation proteasome inhibitor?
Sessions of the conference include:
Proteasome Structure and Function
Structure/function studies of E3 Ligase Catalysis
Deubiquitinating Enzymes as Drug Targets
Novel drug targets in the Ubiquitin System
Ubiquitin-like Modifications – New Opportunities
